In the summer of 2014, a select group of students were able to give up some of their time and travel around Northern Utah. They were able to use their skills learned in Earth Science class as we traveled to City of Rocks, Idaho, Mount Timpanogos Cave, Big Cottonwood Canyon, and the high Unitahs. I have included a few pictures from our trip and some of the student comments.
Day 1: Our trip to City of Rocks near Almo, Idaho.
Here are a few comments from our students:
- I liked being in a small group
- Climbing was boss
- Grist mill was heaven
- I got to go somewhere I have never gone before
- I liked the time to explore
Day 2:Our trip to Mt. Timpanogos Cave and Cascade Springs near Heber, Utah.
Here are a few comments from our students:
- Our tour guide was boss
- We saw a moose!
- I liked the cave and food; the springs were awesome
- The cave was cool - in both senses of the word!
- The hikes were fun - I liked discovering nature and stuff
Day 3 of our trips: Jordan Water Conservation Park and Big Cottonwood Canyon.
A few comments and things students liked:
- I liked the beautiful scenery.
- Snowball fights in June!!!
- Having fun with friends.
- People enjoying themselves.
Day 4: The Unitahs!!
A few comments and things that students liked:
- This day was very fun. We got to see the Bear River and cool scenery.
- It was soo beautiful!! I loved it!
- Provo River Falls was the next breath taking stop after a fantastic lunch.
- We saw some elk and bison.
- We learned a lot about runoff and how it relates to the water cycle.
- I didn't want to go because it was during the summer but I am glad I did. It was fun!

A big thank you to all who came along. I had a blast showing you some of the neat places that I have discovered living in this great state. I hope that you will continue spending time outdoors and learning all that you can about nature. Thanks again for putting up with some long drives and what may seem like even longer hikes!!
